Content Management System (CMS) Print

Content management system is a software system whereby a group of contributors may update the web content of a website easily. The content may include pdf or msword document files, images, html files.

Having your website powered by a CMS is one of the most exciting technologies that you should consider. This allows you to easily update your own website even though you do not have web publishing knowledge. There are several benefits of using CMS:

  • Lower maintenance cost - Since the website can be maintained by you, there is no need for another web designer/programmer to update the site on your behalf.
  • Live update of content - Content of CMS websites are stored in the database. So, update can be live and immediately published online.
  • Faster learning curve - Instead of learning html, css and other programming languages, you only need to understand how to use the CMS software instead. There is no investment cost on web publishing software as well.
  • Multiple administrator access – With CMS, website can be updated and maintained by more than 1 administrator with different access levels.

CMS Software that we use:

1) There are various CMS software that we use. The most common one will be Joomla, a leading open source CMS software that is widely used and supported by a strong community. Joomla is released under the GNU General public license so its free to use. The support site is www.joomla.org.

2) At eDLink, we also develop in house built CMS software. This solution is simpler to use, but not as powerful as Joomla.
