Guide to to transfer a domain name Print

There are many reasons why you may want to transfer a domain name from one vendor to another. If you are transferring the domain name on your own, you will need to follow the steps below. If our support team initiate the transfer on your behalf, we do need your approval along the way and also contact your previous vendor. Below are the steps to transfer a domain name to be managed by eDLink:

1) Our support team will login at the domain name control panel and initiate a domain name transfer

2) We will need a transfer authorization code, which you need to obtain from your previous domain name vendor [or we call the losing registrar]. Your domain name vendor is also usually your previous web hosting vendor. We may approach your previous vendor if you are not sure how to do it. But, its understood that you need to know who your previous vendor is [some customers cannot remember actually]

3) The domain name need to be unlocked by your previous vendor. Alternatively, your previous vendor may provide you the account access so that you/we do it instead. Some registrar do not have this "locking" feature. The locking feature is claimed to protect fraudulent transfer.

4) Once the transfer is successful, we will configure the domain name dns.

*To successfully transfer a domain name, it has to be active for more than 60 days. This means that the domain name has to be registered for at least 60 days with the previous registrar.

*A domain name which has expired or with RGP status cannot be transferred. The owner has to renew the domain name with the previous vendor instead.
