If you encounter such error message in outlook, there can be few reasons below:

1) Your email account is not configured properly. For email username, always use the email address itself, small capitalization. Remember also to tick "My Server Requires Authentication" when you configure yoru email account.

2) Disable anti-virus/firewall temporarily to access email, or configure anti-virus/firewall properly so that anti-virus/firewall would not block email client software. Do this to the LAN/router, all these may block email client software.
